Michael Stern

Director of Process R&D at Sublime Systems

Michael Stern has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Michael started their career as an Engineering Research Intern at Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials in 2006, where they focused on investigating the impact of polishing pad design on polishing performance in the electronic materials division. In 2009, they worked as an Engineering Consultant at Mawana Sugars Ltd, leading a team in developing strategies to reduce the size distribution of sugar crystals and investigating ways to reduce water usage through recycling and treatment strategies.

In the same year, they joined General Mills as an Engineering Consultant, where they led a team in investigating the rheological effects of adding high-fiber ingredients into different foods. Through the application of colloidal and surface science principles and rheological experiments, they significantly improved the understanding of these ingredients.

Moving forward, Michael Stern pursued a PhD at MIT from 2008 to 2013, focusing on their research as a PhD candidate. In 2013, they joined Exponent as a Senior Managing Engineer, where they held the position until May 2022. Finally, in 2022, they became the Director of Process R&D at Sublime Systems.

Michael Stern pursued a comprehensive education in Chemical Engineering. Michael first attended Lehigh University from 2004 to 2008, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering. Continuing their academic journey, they enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2008 and simultaneously pursued two degrees. In 2011, they completed their Master's degree (MSCEP) in Chemical Engineering Practice and then went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Engineering in 2014, both from MIT.

In addition to their formal education, Michael Stern has also attained several certifications. In June 2013, they received an Engineer in Training certification from the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Professional Engineers. Subsequently, they obtained a Professional Engineer (PE) certification from the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists in May 2015. Most recently, in October 2019, they acquired a Professional Engineer (PE) certification from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

While Michael Stern possesses additional qualifications such as a Blasting Certificate of Competency and a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) certification, specific details regarding their acquisition, such as the months and years obtained, were not provided.
