Patrick Berens has a long history of software engineering experience. In 2010, they were a Software Engineering Intern at RightNow, where they designed and developed an error regression testing tool in C# that parsed text and XML, as well as implemented a set of unit tests in C# on a new testing framework. In 2012, they were a Software Engineering Student Associate at SRI International, where they designed and implemented a security model to remove the need for root privileges from 100% of analysts, and constructed a GUI dashboard that analysts could use to interact with the protected security layer. In 2013, they were a Software Development Engineer - Intern at Amazon, where they were responsible for upgrading CloudWatch's configuration manager, SimpleConfig, and integrated Git and Amazon S3 with SimpleConfig CLI tool to keep both states in lock-step. From 2014 to 2019, they were a Software Development Engineer at Amazon, where they developed a new automated testing framework for all legacy servers across a worldwide fleet of EC2 servers, successfully spec'd a project and mentored an intern from first day to offer, and represented their team within a multi-team group designing and implementing a scalable distributed metric service to be run across millions of EC2 servers. Since 2019, they have been a Staff Software Engineer at Submittable.
Patrick Berens has a diverse educational background. Patrick earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Montana State University-Bozeman between 2008 and 2012. Patrick then went on to earn a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Computer Science from Cornell University between 2012 and 2013. Most recently, they earned a Master of Science - MS in Business Analytics from the University of Montana between 2017 and 2019.
