Michael Sugar is a high school history teacher, debate coach, union organizer, and Oregon City resident. He’s running for the Oregon House to bring creative, collaborative leadership to Salem to craft solutions to the statewide problems impacting our community: schools need more support, cost of living is too high, small businesses are too hard to start, homelessness is ongoing. Michael will collaborate with leaders across our state to support solutions to these problems that work for independently minded communities like ours. Everyone deserves stability, safety, and opportunity.

What Michael Believes

Michael believes Oregonians deserve a fair shot at stability and opportunity. Families should be able to afford their housing, their groceries, and their everyday needs without constant stress. He supports strong unions and believes workers deserve fair wages, safe workplaces, and real respect for the essential roles they play in our communities. Michael is also enthusiastic about expanding support for the trades, particularly in our schools.

As an educator, Michael understands what students and teachers need to build exciting futures and grow the small businesses. He will work to strengthen public schools, raise literacy rates, and open more pathways into the trades and career & technical programs. Michael believes every student deserves the skills, confidence, and support to build a strong future for themselves and their community.

Michael is also a proud supporter of local voice in state policy, particularly when it comes to housing, transportation, and infrastructure. He also wants to ensure our community is well prepared for fires & earthquakes.

Above all, Michael believes in collaborative, respectful leadership that brings communities together and focuses on real solutions - not division.
