Michael Freeman

Michael Freeman is a seasoned professional in data visualization and education, currently serving as Principal Visualization Engineer at Summer since January 2024. Previously, Michael worked at Observable as a Data Visualization Software Engineer, focusing on making data visualization more accessible and impactful. Michael's academic contributions include roles as Associate Teaching Professor, Senior Lecturer, and Lecturer at the University of Washington Information School, where courses were designed and taught in Data Science and Interactive Data Visualization. A Fulbright Scholar at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Michael taught in a Master's of Data Science program, complementing a strong background as a Data Visualization Specialist at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and experiences as a health researcher with UNICEF Ghana. Michael holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College.
