John Whitfield

Engineering Advisor at Summer

John Whitfield is currently an engineering advisor at Summer. Prior to that, they were the engineering manager at Plaid, where they transitioned Quovo engineering to form the Plaid NYC Engineering group. John then led the NYC group, reporting to the Head of Engineering in SF. Whitfield took ownership of multiple products and systems on the Plaid platform, while migrating features and clients from the Quovo platform to Plaid.

Before their time at Plaid, Whitfield was the VP of engineering at Quovo from September 2017 to January 2019. There, they grew the team from 14 to 35 and scaled the system to support rapid growth. John also led tech diligence in fund raising and acquisition processes.

Whitfield began their career as a senior software engineer at PFS, which was acquired by BNY Mellon in 2010. John then became a senior Java developer at Travelocity before becoming the VP of engineering at Intent Media Inc. in 2016. John served in that role until they became the Chief Technology Officer at Slice in July 2016.

John Whitfield's educational career includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Columbia University in the City of New York and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Performance from Stony Brook University.
