James C. has a diverse work experience spanning over 15 years. James is currently the CTO and Co-Founder at Great Expectations, a position they have held since February 2019. Prior to this, they worked for the US Federal Government, where they held various roles. From 2016 to 2019, they served as a Senior Data Scientist, leading lab research and software development efforts in analytic integrity and confidence for machine learning. James also built customized tools for analytics teams to address policy concerns.

Before that, from 2015 to 2016, James was the Chief Data Scientist, where they identified best practices and drove the adoption of common technical approaches across data science elements. James oversaw training and knowledge management programs, as well as quality control. From 2011 to 2015, they held the role of Analytic Manager and Lead Scientist, leading data science teams and applying network analysis and other quantitative techniques in priority areas such as counterproliferation and counterterrorism.

Prior to their government work, James worked as an Analyst at Cornerstone Research from 2005 to 2006. Here, they performed quantitative statistical analyses to provide expert testimony in complex litigation cases. James developed a new methodology for computing damages in Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) litigation and streamlined damages analysis in a mutual fund market timing case.
