Dr. Durbin is a visionary leader in the field of intellectual disabilities. He began his career as a mental health counselor working with Vietnam veterans. He’s served as executive director of the C.S. Patterson Training and Habilitation Center in Trenton, Tenn., executive director of Shelby Residential and Vocational Services (SRVS) in Memphis, Tenn. Dr. Durbin was appointed by Tennessee Governor Ned McWherter to serve as assistant commissioner of Mental Retardation Services. In that role, he oversaw institutional and community services for more than 6,000 persons and led the state’s efforts to expand community services and downsize the state’s developmental centers. Dr. Durbin also served as the national director of business development at National Mentor Healthcare in Boston, Mass. He leads the Durbin Consulting Group.
