Surfaces Matter.

Surface finish governs friction, flow, adhesion, wear, and yield — yet most manufacturers still manage surfaces with outdated metrics and trial-and-error testing. Surface-related problems account for 35% of scrap, rework, and unplanned downtime, costing companies billions of dollars per year.

Surface Design Solutions changes that. We combine more than two decades of surface-science research — backed by $9M+ in funding and 10,000+ citations in peer-reviewed literature — with physics-informed AI to make surface optimization fast, practical, and scalable.

Our platform, Surface Designer, works in two steps:

1. Design the right surface — Identify which surface features actually control performance in your application. Replace generic roughness metrics with physics-based specifications grounded in real models of surface interaction.

2. Build the right surface — Bring those specifications to the shop floor for real-time pass/fail decisions, early drift detection, and consistent quality verification at scale.

Beyond software, our team of specialists works directly with your engineers to interpret data, refine specifications, and implement measurable improvements across parts and lines.

We serve manufacturers in automotive, aerospace & defense, medical devices, semiconductor equipment, tooling & additive manufacturing, and consumer electronics.

Our mission: Optimize surface quality to make better products at lower cost.
