Brent Smith

Brent Smith, PhD, is a data analyst and conversion programmer at SwitchThink Solutions since June 2020, with extensive research experience as a postdoctoral researcher at Arizona State University since August 2012, focusing on the ionizing ultraviolet properties of active galactic nuclei and their effects on the inter-galactic medium during the epoch of reionization. Brent has engaged in image processing of UVCANDELS data using Python and has contributed to software and hardware engineering projects, including developing a user interface for a 7-channel multi-spectral camera. Additionally, Brent has a background in academia, having served as an astronomy faculty member at Chandler/Gilbert Community College, and has instructed multiple astronomy courses throughout a graduate career that culminated in a PhD in Astrophysics in 2019 and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Mathematics/Computer Science in 2012 from Arizona State University.
