James Lowden

James Lowden is a Senior Architect at Symas Corporation since March 2016, where development of GCC COBOL, an ISO-standard COBOL front end for gcc, enables mainframe COBOL programs to be compiled and run on Linux. Prior to this role, Lowden served as a Senior Software Architect at Continuum Analytics from April 2013 to January 2016, contributing to various consulting positions in the Professional Services unit. With extensive experience in quantitative research, Lowden was a VP at AllianceBernstein LP from August 1994 to March 2012, focusing on securities research optimization technologies and supporting databases. Earlier, as a Systems Analyst at Maritime Overseas Corporation between January 1990 and August 1994, Lowden began with Cobol programming and expanded responsibilities to include LAN creation. Lowden holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the College of William and Mary, earned between 1978 and 1982.
