Tony MacDonell

Tony MacDonell has over 20 years of work experience in various roles and industries. Tony started their career as a Graphic Designer at Cummings Mitchell in 1999, and then worked as a Senior Interaction Designer at RedCaddy, where they helped build the company's interactive design division. Tony later joined Fuel Industries as an Interaction Designer for a brief period before moving on to Algonquin College, where they taught Interactive Design for eight years.

In 2001, Tony co-founded Teknision Inc. and served as the Engineering Lead. Tony led a team of software engineers and interaction designers, creating award-winning user interfaces for consumer electronics and big brand experiences. In 2013, Teknision was acquired by Synacor Inc.

After the acquisition, Tony joined Synacor and held various leadership positions. Tony was the Director of Engineering for Mobile Applications and SDKs, responsible for the architecture, implementation, and support of products built for Android and iOS. Tony managed a large team of designers, software engineers, and quality assurance engineers. Notable projects during this time included AT&T Live 2.

Tony then became the Engineering Director for Synacor Media Portal Platform, where they maintained and evolved Synacor's web portal instances used by millions of visitors daily. Tony also played a key role in migrating the legacy portal platform to a Preact-based component platform.

Currently, Tony is serving as the Engineering Director for CloudID: Consumer Identity Access Management (CIAM) at Synacor. Tony manages the Consumer Identity Access Management team and is responsible for designing and maintaining a React-based user interface platform used for all IDM products, serving clients such as SiriusXM, HBO, and Dish.

Tony MacDonell has a high school diploma in Graphic Design from Confederation High School, obtained between the years 1992 and 1997. Additionally, they have a diploma in Graphic Design from Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology, acquired from 1998 to 1999.
