Tom Bruls has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Tom is currently serving as the CTO and Co-founder of Synativ, a position they have held since September 2021. Prior to this, they were a LD16 Cohort Member at Entrepreneur First from March 2021 to August 2021.

From October 2016 to May 2021, Tom worked as a Research Scientist at the Oxford Robotics Institute. Tom'sresponsibilities included researching scene understanding and decision making for autonomous vehicles, applying AI techniques, and supervising undergraduate students for their final year projects. Tom also effectively communicated their vision of the autonomous future to media, the public, and students.

In 2020, Tom briefly worked as a Research Scientist at Amazon Development Center from July to October. In their role, they focused on research and possibly contributed to projects related to deep learning and computer vision.

From March 2018 to March 2020, Tom served as a Research Engineer at Oxbotica. During this time, they contributed to research projects related to autonomous vehicles.

Tom gained experience as a Technical Consultant at Oxford University Innovation from October 2017 to March 2018. In this role, they provided consulting services to engineers at Oxbotica, supporting them in setting up data analysis and learning frameworks related to autonomous vehicles.

From September 2014 to March 2015, Tom worked as a Research Engineer at AUDI AG. Tom was involved in the pre-development of automated driving functions and developed software to calculate reference paths for trajectory planning based on urban environments.

Prior to their professional research career, Tom worked as a Private Tutor from May 2007 to July 2014.

During their time at University Racing Eindhoven, from September 2012 to August 2013, they took on the role of Finance and Electronics Manager, where they implemented financial policies to ensure the organization's financial stability during the Euro crisis. Tom also served as an Electrical Engineer from September 2011 to August 2012, where they designed, built, and tested the electronics of the URE07 electric race car for the Formula Student Electric Competition. Tom actively participated in events and collaborated with major automotive companies like Audi, BMW, Daimler, and Porsche.

Overall, Tom Bruls has a strong background in research and development, particularly in the fields of autonomous vehicles, AI, deep learning, and computer vision. Tom has also demonstrated their abilities in leadership, consulting, and financial management.

Tom Bruls completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering Science - Information, Control & Vision from the University of Oxford, from 2016 to 2020. Prior to that, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Electrical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology from 2013 to 2016. Tom also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical Engineering from the same institution, which they obtained from 2009 to 2013. Tom Bruls started their education at Philips van Horne SG, where they completed their Grammar School (Gymnasium) education, specializing in Science & Engineering + Economics from 2003 to 2009.
