Stein Setvik

Stein Setvik currently serves as the VP of Engineering and Head of Platform Engineering at Synthesize Bio since November 2023. Previously, Stein was an Entrepreneur in Residence at AI2 Incubator from June to October 2023. From June 2014 to May 2023, Stein held the position of CTO at Actively Learn, where significant achievements included scaling the platform from 80,000 to over 8 million users and overseeing the company's acquisition by Achieve3000 and McGraw Hill. Prior to that, Stein worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Actively Learn, where infrastructure improvements led to a 90% reduction in API response time and a 40% decrease in hosting costs. Earlier roles include Technical Architect and Engineering Manager at Forum One Communications, Founder of Creative Chalk LLC, and positions in education in Japan, culminating as an Elementary School English Program Lead. Stein pursued a MicroMasters in Statistics and Data Science from MITx and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington.
