Michael Greer has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Michael started their career as a Director of Technology at Sectorbase, where they managed engineering and UI teams for a financial analysis application. Michael then worked at Solvos Inc. as a Director of Technology, leading engineering and user experience teams for a supplier qualification startup.
Michael also worked as a Freelance Engineer for various media brands, including iVillage, where they programmed in multiple languages such as Java, Perl, Rails, Python, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, TCL, CSS, and HTML. Michael later joined Time Inc. as a Technical Product Manager, overseeing digital products across multiple brands.
In their subsequent role as Director of Technology at The Onion, Michael played a pivotal role in transitioning the company from a print publication to a top digital media company. Michael went on to become the VP of Product & Technology and eventually the Chief Technology & Product Officer, leading various teams including digital publishing, revenue, marketing, social media, product, commerce, and technology. Under their leadership, The Onion achieved its highest growth and revenue, expanded onto new platforms, and significantly increased its social media following.
Following their success at The Onion, Michael co-founded Tapp Media, LLC, a subscription video service, where they served as the CTO, CPO, and Co-Founder. Michael was responsible for product, technology, and company growth, architecting and leading the development of a scalable SVOD platform.
Michael's most recent role was at Discord, initially as the Director of Engineering and subsequently as the Senior Director of Engineering. Michael played a key role in the growth of the team, driving recruitment, developing interviewing practices, establishing management culture, and planning organizational strategies.
Currently, they hold the position of Chief Technology Officer at T2, focused on building a new public square based on authentic conversations and people. Michael leads the engineering team to deliver what the users need at scale.
Michael Greer obtained their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Government from Wesleyan University, where they studied from 1988 to 1992. Later, they pursued their Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Creative Writing from New School University, completing the program from 1999 to 2001.
