John Sugimura

John Sugimura is a third-generation Japanese American and a professionally trained chef with over a decade of experience in authentic Japanese cuisine. Currently, they serve as a corporate chef at Taher, Inc. and are an equity partner and executive chef at PinKU Japanese Street Food in Minneapolis. John has a rich background in public health education and advocacy, having worked in various roles focused on community engagement and education. Their culinary journey is deeply rooted in their family history, honoring their grandmother's legacy and the rich culture of Japanese cuisine. John has contributed to redefining Japanese street food while promoting a culturally accurate retelling of the Japanese American experience.
