Simphiwe Nontyi

Simphiwe Nontyi is an experienced data scientist currently employed at takealot.com since July 2022. Prior to this role, Simphiwe worked as a Junior Actuarial Specialist at Old Mutual South Africa from March 2019 to July 2022, focusing on actuarial modeling for SAM and IFRS17 valuation. Experience also includes positions at Statistics South Africa as a Price Methodologist, where responsibilities included calculating the consumer price index and improving methodologies, and as a Survey Statistician, designing and analyzing surveys. Simphiwe's earlier experience includes part-time work as a Junior Lecturer at East Cape Midlands College, teaching Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) honours in Econometrics from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Science with a focus on Mathematics and Statistics from Rhodes University, where Simphiwe also completed an honours degree in Statistics and Mathematics.
