Meike Siegner

Meike Siegner has worked in various roles and organizations throughout their career. In 2010, they started as a Project Assistant with Friends of the Earth Europe, where they focused on promoting sustainable traffic in Austria. Meike then moved on to work as a Project Management Intern at ACADIS Bogotá in 2011. Meike continued their research work as a Junior Researcher at WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) in 2012 and as a Research Analyst at the Heinrich Böll Foundation from 2013 to 2014. Meike also worked as a Consultant for bc211 through the Mitacs Accelerate Graduate Research Program in 2016. From 2015 to 2021, Meike worked as a Graduate Researcher and Teaching Assistant at The University of British Columbia - Faculty of Forestry. Meike then became a Guest Lecturer and Coordinator at the Innovation for Social Impact Partnership (ISIP) from 2019 to 2022. Following that, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Toronto Metropolitan University from 2021 to 2022. Most recently, they joined Taking Root in 2023 as the Market Certification Lead, overseeing certification reporting activities for the organization's forest carbon removal projects.

Meike Siegner has a diverse education history. Meike completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Natural Resources and Sustainability at The University of British Columbia from 2015 to 2021. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Socioeconomics from WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) between 2011 and 2014. Meike also holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Development Studies from the University of Vienna, which they earned from 2007 to 2011. In addition, Meike participated in a Joint Studies Program at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile from 2013 to 2014 and an Erasmus Mundus Program at Lund University in 2009 and 2010, specializing in Politics of the Environment and Development. Lastly, they obtained the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) certification from The University of British Columbia in November 2019.
