Talking Through Art (TTA) is a Rwandan NGO empowering women with disabilities through creativity, education, and meaningful work. Founded in 2015 by Petr Kočnar, TTA was built on the belief that disability is not inability — every woman deserves the opportunity to earn a dignified living and contribute to her community.
Today, TTA supports more than 100 women with disabilities, training them in basket weaving, sewing, and sustainable crafts made from recycled materials. Their products — baskets, bags, mosquito nets, and innovative upcycled designs — are sold locally and internationally, carrying not only beauty but also stories of resilience and hope.
TTA goes beyond employment. We sponsor the education of 30 children of women with disabilities, covering school fees, uniforms, and materials. We also provide training in English, financial literacy, climate awareness, and life skills, ensuring women and their families are prepared for a brighter future.
Over the years, TTA has become a cultural hub. We host cultural walking tours in Kigali, offering visitors authentic connections with local neighborhoods, and basket weaving workshops, where guests learn directly from our artisans. Our gallery and shop showcase unique woven designs, and thanks to support from the Czech embassy, we have expanded into sewing classes that create new opportunities for women.
We are also addressing climate change by recycling fabrics and introducing real composting practices in Rwanda. Our vision is a greener, healthier, and more inclusive future — where every family has fertile soil to grow food, and women lead in building sustainable communities.
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2025, our mission remains clear: to empower women with disabilities through art, education, and sustainable livelihoods.
