Alex Abedine

VP, Regulatory at Talos

Alex Abedine has extensive experience in the financial services and regulatory space. In 2015, they were a Summer Honors Intern at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in the Division of Enforcement Market Abuse Unit. From 2017 to 2020, they were an Associate in the Financial Services Regulatory Group at White & Case LLP, specializing in payments, cryptocurrency, and fintech and advising on the Saudi Aramco IPO. In 2020, they joined Meta as Lead Product Counsel, Novi Financial, where they developed Instagram NFT capabilities and was responsible for Meta's crypto and fiat currency P2P initiatives. Alex also launched the Diem stablecoin-exclusive Novi digital wallet app and Novi on WhatsApp in the US and Guatemala, as well as managed Facebook Payments on WhatsApp in Brazil and Facebook Payments on Messenger in the US. In 2022, they joined Coinbase as Senior Counsel, Product, where they were the Platform Legal POC for blockchain-based initiatives using zero-knowledge protocols and NFTs, Coinbase Pay fiat-to-crypto onramps, international crypto transfers, Coinbase Card and direct deposit. Alex also launched Coinbase decentralized identity, increasing web3 accessibility. Alex is currently VP, Regulatory at Talos, where they are responsible for designing and implementing global regulatory strategy.

Alex Abedine obtained a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law from 2014 to 2017. Prior to this, they obtained a Master of Science in Economic History from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 2013 to 2014. Alex also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History and Economics from Emory University from 2008 to 2012. In 2011, they attended UCL for History and Economics. In December 2017, Alex obtained a New York State Bar certification from New York State.
