Tamandua Expeditions offers adventure-packed, hands on, expeditions through some of the most beautiful and challenging wilderness on earth. Our focus is on wildlife research, conservation, and responsible adventure travel.

The focus of our expeditions is the natural world; the Amazon contains an unmatched variety of flora and fauna.  Common sightings include species such as macaws, capybara, toucans, caiman, tapir, monkeys, frogs, snakes, and some of the 3000 species of butterfly that reside in the Peruvian Amazon Basin. Rarer finds include species such as the jaguar, and the Amazon’s largest predator, the black caiman. For this type of experience, being a wildlife lover is a must!

The adventure of jungle life is another important focus of our expeditions. Groups travel by jungle road and river to reach our remote location. Once at our destination, we operate without the help of electricity or regular communication with the outside world. Working deep in the lowland tropical rainforest at the base of the Andean range, volunteers are immersed in one of the most biologically diverse regions on earth. Once on site we begin our projects along with swamp walks, canopy climbs, raft making, and even solo expeditions. Journey off the tourist trail, get your boots wet and your hands dirty in an environment that will challenge and inspire you.

Our expeditions work closely with indigenous communities, and rely on their expertise and support. Our volunteers have the opportunity to work with members of these communities and experience a way of life completely different than their own. They experience what it is like to live off the forest: finding food, creating shelters, making brooms and baskets. It is our goal to run fun, exciting, and safe expeditions that have purpose. We are committed in the fight to help save the world’s largest rainforest, and the wildlife and cultures it is home to.
