تأسس البرنامج الوطني للتنمية المجتمعية في المناطق "تنمية" عام 2018م بهدف تحقيق تنمية مجتمعية مستدامة للسكان في مناطق المشاريع التنموية، والارتقاء بالمستوى المعيشي للمجتمعات وبناء مستقبلها وفق أفضل الممارسات الدولية، وذلك من خلال تصميم التدخلات التنموية المناسبة لضمان استعادة المستوى المعيشي للسكان والعمل على تحسينه. كما يأسس البرنامج معايير متكاملة في التنمية المجتمعية تراعي حقوق الإنسان بالدرجة الأولى، وتحقق له حياة كريمة وبيئة مستقرة.
