Brian Flaherty

Sr. Design Strategist, Human-Centered Design at Tantus Technologies

Brian Flaherty has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Brian started working at The Agora Companies in 1996 as a Senior Art Director and was responsible for implementing creative marketing ideas. In 2001, they joined MCI USA Sales (formerly Network Media Partners) as an Art Director, where they focused on commercial, trade, and association publishing. Brian then moved on to work as a Creative Director at The YGS Group from 2005-2008, where they provided customized marketing and communication solutions. Brian then joined The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in 2008 as a Creative Director and Strategic Communications Supervisor, where they contributed to critical technology research and development projects. Currently, Brian is working at Tantus Technologies, Inc. as a Senior Design Strategist in their Human-Centered Design Center of Excellence (HCD CoE). In this role, they support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) by utilizing design thinking methodologies to better understand the needs of the citizens they serve.

Brian Flaherty graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Public Relations and Journalism. In terms of additional certifications, Brian obtained SAFe Agilist Certification from Scaled Agile, Inc. in November 2019. In June 2017, they completed the DesignThinking Practicum at The Johns Hopkins University - Carey Business School. Prior to that, in March 2016, Brian obtained the IDEO: Advanced Design Thinking Certification from IDEO U. Brian also completed the IDEO: Foundations in Design Thinking certification in January 2014, from the same institution. Additionally, Brian previously possess a SECRET clearance, obtained from the Defense Security Service (DSS) Secret Clearance, although it has recently expired. Brian has not specified the obtained month or year for their Executive Certificate in Innovation and Human-Centered Design, obtained from The Johns Hopkins University - Carey Business School, or for their Foundations in Design Thinking certification from IDEO U. Lastly, Brian has received training in improv with a focus on improving creativity and collaboration from a Training Facilitator.
