Andrew Smith has a diverse work experience in both scientific research and veterinary medicine. Andrew began their career in 2012 as a Technician at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas, where they provided emergency veterinary care and conducted diagnostics. In 2013, they joined North Carolina State University as a Laboratory Assistant in various research projects, including investigations on mastitis treatment in dairy cattle, prebiotic and arachidonic acid treatments in neonatal swine, and foot pad dermatitis in broilers. In 2014, they also worked as a Kennel Assistant at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Since 2018, Andrew has been employed at TARGAN Inc., initially as a Senior Research Scientist, where they provided experimental design insights, collected and analyzed data, and contributed to vaccine delivery. Currently, they serve as a Study Program Manager, responsible for coordinating research studies and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Andrew Smith completed their Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences at North Carolina State University from 2011 to 2015. Andrew then pursued a Master of Science (MAS) degree in Animal Sciences at the same university, which they completed in 2017.
