Joyce Townsend is a Senior Conservation Scientist at Tate, a position held since 2019. They previously served as a Conservation Scientist and Acting Chief Conservation Scientist at Glasgow Museums from 1979 to 1987. In addition to their role at Tate, Joyce is the Director of Publications for the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC) since 2009, where they manage publications policy and support scholarly communications. Joyce earned their PhD in technical art history from the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, following a BSc in Physics from the University of Glasgow.
