Retention rates are poor, training budgets do not reflect the workforce value, and for too long, the focus on evidence based approaches as the solution is not working. Maori are the most impacted group with Maori young males having one of the highest rates of suicide in the developed world.  Solutions must prioritise these inequities in order to improve outcomes for all of New Zealand .
