Jonathas Costa

Principal Software Engineer / Research Scientist at Mustard

Jonathas Costa has a long history of working in software engineering and research. Jonathas began their career in 2005 as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at ICMC-USP, where they developed a system capable of ray tracing point clouds accelerated by GPU. In 2008, they worked as a Software Designer and a Software Developer Internship at CI&T, creating solutions and systems based on C#, Java, PHP, and other languages for various businesses and customers. From 2010 to 2011, they were a Research Assistant at the University of Utah and a Research Intern at VisTrails Inc., where they developed a provenance system for the Autodesk Maya system. In 2012, they were a Research Intern at Modelo Inc., where they developed geometric processing methods applied to geological models of oil reservoirs. From 2013 to 2016, they worked as a Research Scientist at Modelo Inc., focusing on the development and implementation of new algorithms and software for visualizations of huge geometric models of Earth's crust and the development of geometry processing techniques for editing these types of models. Since 2016, they have been a Research Associate at New York University, developing algorithms and systems for different visualization techniques on massive and non-trivial amounts of data. In 2021, they began working as a Principal Software Engineer / Research Scientist at Mustard.
