Derek Schwede is the VP Legal at Modern Treasury, overseeing legal operations in commercial, AI, product, privacy, corporate, and HR matters since December 2021. Simultaneously, Derek serves as an Adjunct Professor and Guest Lecturer at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, teaching Tech Transactions 101. With a strong focus on AI, payments, and privacy, Derek has participated as a speaker at various prestigious conferences, including the Federal Reserve Financial Services Symposium and the Nacha Smarter Faster Payments Conference. Additionally, Derek advises Bonterms on simplifying commercial contracting and is an active member of the TechGC community. Prior to these roles, Derek was a Principal at Smithline PC and an Associate at Morrison & Foerster LLP, working extensively with a wide range of clients in technology law. Derek holds a JD from Harvard Law School and an undergraduate degree from Rice University.
