Hock Lye Chor has over 27 years of work experience in the field of electrical engineering. Hock Lye started their career in 1994 as an Engineering Manager & Project Manager at BHP Engineering, where they managed the design and construction of steel-framed factory buildings. Hock Lye then worked at Sime Engineering as a Lead Electrical Engineer before joining Carigali Triton Operating Company as a Senior Electrical Engineer, where they provided technical support to operations and projects. Hock Lye Chor later worked at Aker Kvaerner Engineering as a Lead Electrical Engineer and at Aker Engineering Malaysia as an Electrical Specialist, where they were involved in various design projects. Most recently, they held the position of Principal Electrical Engineer at Technip Geoproduction, where they played a key role in the preparation of FEED packages and was a member of the Integrated Project Management Team for the RAPID Project.

Hock Lye Chor attended Penang Free School from 1961 to 1967, during which time they did not pursue any specific degree or field of study. Following this, they enrolled at the University of Malaya from 1968 to 1972, where they completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical.
