Lead Product Designer - Design Systems at TechnologyOne

Margs Plaisted has a diverse work experience in the field of design. Margs started their career as a Freelance Illustrator at Harcourt in 2006. Margs then worked as a Graphic Designer and Online Developer at DeakinPrime, where they created interactive online modules and websites using CSS, XHTML, JavaScript, and Flash animation. Margs also worked at Trust International as a UI Designer, where they designed user interfaces for hotel booking engines with a focus on intuitive navigation and usability.

In 2008, Margs joined the Finnish Association for the Deaf as a Designer and Illustrator, where they worked on an educational flash game for Deaf and hard of hearing children. Margs co-wrote the game script and illustrated storyboards, characters, and background scenes.

Later, Margs worked at the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games as a Designer, where they led a map project for athletes and trainers, emphasizing usability and information design. Margs also worked as the sole designer for a bilingual book commemorating the Aboriginal community.

From 2010 to 2012, Margs worked at McGraw-Hill Education as a Senior Visual UI/UX Designer, responsible for designing a browser-based software application from concept to finished design. Margs collaborated with the development team to ensure adherence to specifications and requirements.

Following that, Margs joined MHElabs, the research and development group of McGraw-Hill Education, as a Lead UI/UX Designer. There, they led the IA, interaction, and creative vision of digital products.

In 2014, Margs took on the role of Lead UI/UX Designer at McGraw-Hill Education's Analytics Practice, overseeing all products within the practice and focusing on mobile-first analytics product design. Margs collaborated with engineering to develop feature concepts and maintain the product roadmap.

Lastly, Margs is currently working as the Lead Product Designer for Design Systems at TechnologyOne since October 2017.

Margs Plaisted completed a 2D Animation Bootcamp at the School of Motion in 2017. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Multimedia Design from Aalto University in 2008, after studying at Swinburne University of Technology from 2005 to 2008. Margs Plaisted also holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Science and Legal Studies from La Trobe University, which they obtained from 1995 to 1998. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Animation Bootcamp from the School of Motion in an unspecified month and year.
