Ryan Nelson has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Ryan currently holds the position of Head of Technical Operations at TED Conferences since July 2021. Prior to this, from 2020 to 2021, Ryan worked as a Solutions Architect, Field Engineer, Sales Engineer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
From 2018 to 2020, Ryan served as the Lead of Field Engineering and Sales Engineering at Scytale.io, where they contributed to the development and promotion of SPIFFE specification and Scytale Enterprise line of software and services.
Before that, Ryan held the position of Sr. Director/Consulting Member of Technical Staff at Oracle from 2015 to 2018. Ryan was responsible for building and managing a Cloud Security Operations organization and provided consulting on datacenter building, process development, and enterprise storage solutions.
From 2010 to 2015, Ryan worked as the VP of Field Operations and Service Delivery at Joyent, overseeing technical operations and transitioning to external-facing operations support.
Prior to that, Ryan worked as the Director of Operations at Major League Baseball Advanced Media from 2001 to 2010, where they played a significant role in system engineering and played a key role in resolving production outages.
From 1998 to 2001, Ryan served as the Chief Systems Architect at StarMedia Network, where they managed a team of sysadmins, support engineers, network admins, and data center technicians as the company underwent significant growth.
In 1994, Ryan co-founded i-traffic, an online advertising agency, and played a critical role in establishing the company's IT infrastructure and building the Manhattan office.
Ryan began their career in 1997, providing tech support at Fidelity.
Ryan Nelson studied at Winterset High School from 1984 to 1987. Ryan later pursued a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Iowa from 1987 to 1993.
