Corey Woods became the mayor of the City of Tempe in July 2020 and currently serves as the Executive Director of Community Relations at ASU Preparatory Academy. Prior to these roles, they held various positions including Chief Operating Officer for the Greater Phoenix Urban League and Director of College and Career Articulation for the Phoenix Union High School District. Woods was elected to the Tempe City Council in May 2008 and served until July 2016, playing a key role in advancing city policies that earned Tempe a perfect score in the Human Rights Campaign’s “Municipal Equality Index.” They graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan and earned a Master of Arts in Educational Policy from Arizona State University.
