The Rossi Cairo family, owners of the biodynamic agricultural estate La Raia since 2002, acquired Tenuta Cucco in Serralunga d’Alba in 2015 – a 15‐hectare vineyard in the heart of the Langhe. Serralunga is considered the most significant area within Barolo, renowned for its distinctive and long‐lasting wines and the age of its vines. Tenuta Cucco is located at the roots of a castle dating back to the 1300s, and its name refers to the “Cucco”, meaning the summit of the hill where our oldest vineyard, Vigna Cucco, is situated – part of the Cerrati which, along with Bricco Voghera, is one of the estate’s cru. We produce Nebbiolo grapes destined for ageing Barolos, as well as Dolcetto d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba and Langhe Chardonnay. Piero Rossi Cairo has introduced organic methods in both the vineyard and the winery – a way to further enhance the unique terroir and help preserve a landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for future generations.
