Ben Black

Ben Black is a Senior Data Scientist at Tesco, specializing in Operational Research. They currently develop algorithms and software for complex network and layout optimization problems, particularly large scale MILP models. Previously, Ben played a significant role in creating an in-house solution for a complex variant of the vehicle routing problem at AnyVan and worked as a Data Science PhD Intern at Tesco. Ben holds a PhD in Statistics and Operational Research from the STOR-i CDT at Lancaster University, where they developed a new form of distributionally robust optimization integrating parametric statistics through likelihood theory. Ben also earned a Master of Science in Operational Research and Applied Statistics with Distinction from Cardiff University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with First Class Honours.
