Tespen Robotics is building autonomous driving technology for public transit and city-service vehicles.

Founded at UC Berkeley and headquartered in San Francisco, Tespen is developing a retrofit-first, route-based autonomy platform designed to bring existing vehicle fleets into the autonomous era.

We are starting with fixed-route public transportation, where vehicles operate repeatedly along defined routes and where driver shortages are increasingly limiting the reliability, frequency and expansion of essential mobility services.

Our technology combines perception, localization, planning and control in a hardware-agnostic software platform designed for integration with existing fleets. By focusing on specific routes and operational environments, Tespen aims to enable a practical and scalable path toward safe autonomous operations.

Tespen is currently developing collaborations with public-transit operators, universities, technology partners and public institutions in the United States and Europe, with an initial operating focus on Italy as testbed market.

Our mission is to help cities provide safer, more accessible, sustainable and reliable transportation - at any time and on every route.
