Andrew Herr has over 13 years of professional work experience. In 2021, they began working as a Senior Software Consultant for Test Double. From 2017 to 2021, they worked as a Senior Software Engineer for Itron, Inc., where they built and maintained microservices to control distributed energy resources using Elixir and Ruby on Rails, developed and maintained a full stack application used by electric utilities to manage demand response programs, and integrated with third party APIs to control smart home appliances. From 2014 to 2017, they worked at Spectra Logic, where they held two roles: Manager, Software Engineering, and Sustaining Software Engineer. From 2008 to 2013, they worked as a Lead Project Engineer and Lead Renewable Energy Installer for Seventh Generation Energy Systems. Lastly, from 2005 to 2008, they worked as a Research Assistant for Helically Symmetric eXperiment, where they performed numerical analysis of experimental data in MATLAB, developed code for Abel inversion of data signals from soft x-ray detectors, and algorithm testing with mock data and error analysis using Monte Carlo methods.
Andrew Herr obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Physics and Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute between 2000 and 2004. Andrew then went on to earn a Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison between 2005 and 2007. In 2011, they obtained a Journeyman Electrician certification from the State of Wisconsin and a NABCEP Certified Small Wind Installer certification from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners.
