Aaron Steele

Aaron Steele has over 19 years of work experience. In 2021, they began working as Engineering and Operations at Textile. Previously, they served as Head of Engineering and Head of Operations at Curacubby from 2020. From 2016 to 2020, they were an Engineering Manager at Stripe, where they led machine learning infrastructure and enabled product teams to build, deploy, and monitor models in production. Aaron was also the Senior Vice President at CARTO from 2015. From 2013 to 2015, they were a Senior Fellow, Chief Technology Officer, and Principal Software Engineer at the World Resources Institute, where they led engineering and shipped Global Forest Watch and the Global Forest Watch API, which won the United Nations Big Data Climate Challenge in 2014. From 2002 to 2013, they were a Technical Lead Manager, Technical Lead, Software Engineer, and System Administrator at the University of California, Berkeley, where they built distributed data pipelines, APIs, and geospatial visualizations to scale biodiversity research on the cloud. Aaron also helped ship Map of Life, VertNet, BioGeomancer, and ReBioMa.
