Michael Atkin is a seasoned journalist currently serving as the National Consumer Affairs Reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) since May 2013. With a background that includes roles as a Queensland and Tasmanian Reporter for the 7.30 television program, Michael has contributed significantly to current affairs storytelling across Australia. Prior experience includes serving as Executive Producer for triple j Hack, where Michael led a team focused on youth-centric current affairs, and working as a freelance reporter and documentary maker for Deutsche Welle from India. Michael was also a recipient of the Judith Neilson Institute Asia Reporting Fellowship, selected as one of 12 mid-career journalists to enhance reporting on Southeast Asia. A Bachelor of Communication in Journalism from the University of Technology Sydney complements Michael's extensive experience in the field.
