Niraj Lal

Niraj Lal is a distinguished expert in energy systems, currently serving as Principal of Future Energy Systems at the Australian Energy Market Operator since April 2020, with an extensive background in engineering strategy and energy policy. Lal holds a position as a Visiting Fellow at The Australian National University, specializing as an academic expert for the International Energy Agency. A recognized presenter at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Lal has received accolades such as the Celestino Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Science in 2021 and has been involved in numerous speaking engagements globally. Previous experience includes roles within the Victorian Government, focusing on energy policy, and postdoctoral research at Monash University.
