The American Message is a nonpartisan messaging think tank dedicated to helping leaders tell the truth well in a fragmented, polarized media environment. We use research grounded in psychology and neuroscience to develop, test, and refine narratives that speak to both the head and the heart, so leaders can persuade, not just mobilize the base.

Like leading policy institutes, we are focused on solving real-world problems and strengthening democracy, but our specialty is message, not policy. We study how people actually process information and emotion, design values-based stories that resonate across lines of party and identity, and provide a shared “songbook” that allows organizations and leaders to improvise authentically while still achieving message discipline.

The American Message Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that engages primarily in research, education, and training. Our team works with advocates, civic leaders, and pro-democracy organizations to test language, frame debates, and counter bad-faith narratives, including attacks on honest education, elections, and pluralism. We also have a separate advocacy arm, The American Message Action Fund, which engages in political advocacy.

Across all of our work, we are guided by core American values: opportunity, dignity, equal justice, and the belief that everyone should have a real say in the decisions that shape their lives. By pairing rigorous research with compelling storytelling, we help build a healthier information ecosystem; one in which fact-based institutions, public-interest leaders, and everyday people have the tools they need to compete with the loudest and most extreme voices and to move our country toward a more inclusive, resilient democracy.
