Kate Sheppard

Kate Sheppard is a seasoned journalist and educator with extensive experience in environmental storytelling and media. Currently serving as the Managing Editor at The Assembly since April 2022, Kate previously held the position of Teaching Associate Professor at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media from August 2017 to June 2022, where courses taught included environmental storytelling and reporting. Notable roles at HuffPost spanned from August 2013 to March 2022, including Senior National Editor and reporter focusing on climate and energy issues. Additional experience includes board membership at Street Sense and the Society of Environmental Journalists, along with prior reporting positions at Mother Jones, Grist, and The American Prospect. Academic qualifications include a Master's degree in Media Entrepreneurship from American University and a B.A. in Journalism and Politics from Ithaca College.
