Missy Ryan is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in national security and foreign affairs reporting. Currently serving as a Staff Writer at The Atlantic since May 2025, Ryan previously worked at The Washington Post from October 2014 to May 2025, where roles included Staff Writer and State Department Correspondent, as well as Pentagon Correspondent. Prior experience includes reporting for Thomson Reuters as a National Security and US-Middle East Correspondent, Pentagon and Afghanistan-Pakistan Correspondent, and Acting Bureau Chief for Mexico and Central America from July 2010 to September 2014. Ryan also participated in the White House Fellowship Program as a White House Fellow from August 2012 to November 2013, and served as Deputy Bureau Chief and correspondent in Iraq for Reuters from August 2008 to March 2010. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree from Harvard Kennedy School (2003-2005) and a Bachelor’s degree in English literature from Georgetown University (1993-1997).
