The Australian Ballet is a leader in Australia's arts and cultural landscape. Since its inception in 1962, it has become one of the world’s greatest ballet companies. Much of this success has been driven by the major support organisations, The Ballet Society in VIC, NSW and SA and their community of ballet lovers.

There is a long history associated with the three state organisations, each initiating and driving the first, and at the time, only philanthropic and outreach activities of The Australian Ballet. The Australian Ballet Society, Victoria officially began supporting the Company in February 1966. The NSW organisation began as, Friends of The Australian Ballet (NSW), and has been a proud supporter since 1973. The Australian Ballet Forum in South Australia commenced support in 1992, and in 1997 adopted the name Friends of The Australian Ballet (S.A.) Inc. Each flourished to become among the most successful and far-reaching support group of any performing arts company in Australasia.

In 2022, the three organisations moved to assume a national name, ‘The Ballet Society’ and today, support an extended ballet family. This allows us to work closely with The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School, connecting them to our supporters including subscribers, patrons, donors, and sponsors.

We look forward to continuing this journey as we nurture and support a diverse ballet community, to encourage, inspire and share the appreciation of ballet.
