The Black Currency (TBC), founded on July 14th, 2020, by Brooklyn natives Kwame Egerton II and Ackeem Kipp, is dedicated to transforming financial literacy and economic empowerment for underrepresented communities. 

At TBC, we believe in empowering young people to make thoughtful and responsible economic decisions regarding spending, saving, borrowing, and investing. Our mission is to equip the black community with the knowledge and skills necessary for economic literacy, long-term saving, and entrepreneurship. 

What We Do:

- Educational Content: Our blog and podcast provide in-depth discussions on financial literacy, covering a variety of topics such as personal finance, economic decisions, and long-term saving strategies.
- Monthly Newsletter: Subscribe to our monthly newsletter for insights, tips, and updates on financial empowerment and economic literacy.
- Talks & Training: We offer educational talks to employees at corporations and students from elementary through college focused on financial literacy, empowering communities to take control of their economic futures.
- Annual Pitch Competition: We conduct an annual pitch competition in partnership with Neotribe venture capital where we give away $10,000 to founders from underrepresented communities to help scale their business. 
- Merchandise: We’ve created a diverse range of products, including scented candles, decorative coasters, stylish tote bags, fashionable hats, cozy knitted sweaters, and many more unique items.
- Media: We launched TBC Kids on YouTube to help introduce the next generation to essential financial literacy topics, providing them with engaging and educational content that covers the basics of money management, saving, budgeting, smart spending, and investing.
