The CAASE
Ryan Spooner is an experienced educator and prevention specialist currently serving as the Prevention Education Director at The CAASE since August 2019, after previously holding the role of Prevention Education Manager. Spooner has a strong background in curriculum development and workshop facilitation addressing critical social issues such as rape culture and racism. Prior roles include teaching writing and rhetoric at both DePaul University and the College of DuPage, with an emphasis on social issues and multi-modal texts. Additional experience includes editing for Essay Press and curating events for The Dollhouse Reading Series in Chicago. Spooner holds an MFA in Creative Writing and dual bachelor's degrees in English and Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

The CAASE
Mission and Vision The Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation envisions a community free from all forms of sexual exploitation, including sexual assault and the commercial sex trade. We address the culture, institutions, and individuals that perpetrate, profit from, or support sexual exploitation. Our Work Prevention Education - Creating and implementing curricula that empowers high-school-age students to help put an end to sexual harm. Public Policy and Advocacy - Advocating for legislative and policy reforms that provide support for survivors of sexual harm, and hold systems accountable for addressing and ultimately preventing the root causes of sexual harm. Community Engagement - Encouraging a better understanding of sexual harm among diverse communities and helping them take action against it. Legal Services - Representing survivors of sexual violence and exploitation in civil litigation, as victims’ rights representatives in the criminal justice system, and as advocates for public policies that increase the efficacy of criminal and civil laws pertaining to sexual violence and exploitation.
