The Civil Commission was founded after the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
More than 1,200 people were killed and over 250 were abducted.
This assault included acts of murder, torture, rape, gender-based violence, and abduction, leading to the immediate formation of the Civil Commission — an independent non-profit organization.
The Commission documents, researches, and raises international awareness of war crimes and gender-based violence committed against women, children, and families.
Under the leadership of human rights and international law expert Dr.
@CochavElkayam
, 2024 Israel Prize laureate, the Commission works to preserve testimony, structure evidence, and amplify victims’ voices in the international arena, while confronting denial.
