The Flamingo Project was inspired by personal experiences. As a new arrival in the Greater Shepparton region a couple of years ago, I wanted to do personal/professional development so I could be a productive member of the community with good leadership skills and develop my professional career. I came across women leaders and always wondered about what they did to get where they are, what are their inspirations, what are their challenges, and most of all, what can I do to be where they are.

Even though I made connections by directly approaching some of these women, I never really had the confidence to just ask them those questions. I didn’t want to come across as desperate or look like a fangirl.

Recently, I joined a local leadership program, and had the opportunity to listen to the women leaders of our region. I was blown away with how much you can learn just by listening to someone’s story and having the chance to ask the questions. It got me thinking about the time I was new to the region; If I had the chance to just talk to a leader, it wouldn’t have taken me this long to be where I am today.

At the Flamingo Project, our mission is to encourage women to exchange experiences, and help each other grow.

Our pilot project, Women Mentorship Program will connect women leaders with aspiring women leaders. The mentors and mentees in this program are from the Goulburn Valley Region.
