The Freedom Theatre is an independent theatre and cultural institution rooted in Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine, and one of the most influential platforms for contemporary theatre and cultural resistance in the region. Established in 2006, the theatre works at the intersection of artistic production, education, and community empowerment, developing a vibrant creative environment for theatre and multimedia in the north of the West Bank.

The theatre’s work is grounded in the belief that culture is not a luxury under occupation. Through professional performances, innovative community-based programmes, and international collaborations, The Freedom Theatre nurtures critical thinking, imagination, and artistic excellence, while strengthening cultural leadership among young people and women.

Alongside its artistic productions, The Freedom Theatre runs long-term educational and training initiatives through The Freedom Theatre Academy of Performing Arts, supporting emerging Palestinian artists, technicians, and cultural practitioners. Its programmes engage youth, women, and marginalized communities, using theatre and multimedia as tools for expression, healing, dialogue, and social transformation.

The Freedom Theatre continues to operate despite severe structural constraints, including repeated military incursions and restrictions on movement and cultural life. In this context, theatre becomes a form of testimony, a counter-archive of memory, and a collective practice of dignity and resilience.

The institution works with local, regional, and international partners, cultural institutions, universities, festivals, and networks, to amplify Palestinian voices and contribute to global conversations on arts under occupation, cultural rights, and social justice.
