Fifteen years ago, Melinda Powers peered through the windows of the oldest building on Vashon, the original Island hardware store. Melinda envisioned an expansive restaurant serving great good food, and a gathering place for the community. She persisted to make that dream a reality and in 2005, The Hardware Store restaurant opened its doors.

Rob and Janie Andrews, long time Island residents and partners in the restaurant with Melinda, became the sole owners of the restaurant in 2019. They continue to carry forward Melinda's vision as a comfortable gathering spot serving consistently great food.
