UNEP reports MSW generated will grow from 2.3 billion tonnes [2023] to 3.8 billion tonnes [2050], majority of which undergoing no processing are dumped into landfills. That's not sustainable, since we are running out of grounds, landfills overflowing, air pollution from poisonous volatile organic compounds, landfill fires, greenhouse gas emissions, leachate causing soil erosion, groundwater contamination. Thus we propose, Self-sustainable, waste segregator and converter. Level 1, circular conveyor belt where waste will be gradually poured into appropriate amounts as detected by infrared sensors from level 0, dumping station. Level 2, 20 different sensors are employed on 20 individual sliding entrance gates to level 3. Moisture, Infrared, Weight, RFID, Optical, Ultrasonic, inductive proximity sensor, gas sensors etc. ensure segregation by allowing the opening of the sliding gates only when the particular sensor is activated by presence of a particular kind of waste, accumulating in designated slots until threshold. Transfer to Level 3 by gravity-assisted roulette mechanism via sliding wiper blades, strategically positioned air blowers. Advanced AI- sensors, AI-assisted monitoring preventing misclassification and Robotic error correction arm, identifies misclassified items at Level 3, redirecting to level 1. Level 4, SHUDDH sorts segregated waste into 20 distinct categories—biodegradable, plastics, metals, glass, paper, electronics, hazardous, medical, chemical, batteries, textiles, construction, rubber, organic, oil-based, ceramics, agricultural, packaging, industrial wastes plus miscellaneous [X]. Self-cleaning implements air jets, spray nozzles, rotating wipers to keep sensors, components functional and clean. Future implementation, solar energy, kinetic recovery, water recycling for self-sustenance. With SHUDDH, we expect to reduce landfill wastes to bare minimum, minimise pollution, ensure efficient recycling, and generate employment.
