The New Athenian is a media platform focused on contemporary Athens and the forces shaping its evolution.

Through in-depth reporting, interviews, and cultural storytelling, we examine how urban development, sustainability, creative industries, and social change are influencing the city today. Our approach is reflective and analytical, offering context and perspective on issues that extend beyond the news cycle.

We highlight individuals and initiatives operating at the intersection of local relevance and global thinking. From urban planners and architects to artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural institutions, our subjects contribute to a broader understanding of how cities adapt, regenerate, and redefine themselves.

The platform combines a high-quality annual print edition with an active digital presence, allowing for both long-term reflection and ongoing dialogue. This dual format supports a layered narrative—capturing both the immediacy and the depth of urban transformation.

Although rooted in Athens, The New Athenian engages with international ideas and case studies, positioning the city within a wider global conversation about urban life, sustainability, and cultural identity.

The New Athenian is not only about place—it is about process. An ongoing exploration of how cities change, and how people shape the environments they inhabit.
